Kinetic IT System Engineer Neville Prakash has chosen InfluxDB to monitor his LAN, downloads, storage capacity and server health. He uses the TICK Stack time series platform — Telegraf, InfluxDB, Chronograf and Kapacitor — to monitor his vSphere. Prakash uses a custom script in Virtual Manager that pushes data in real-time and allows him to monitor his VM. Although he is using InfluxDB for personal and non-commercial use, it also works seamlessly and is extremely customizable to use in a commercial and busy environment, allowing to check CPU increases, disk failures and prevent downtime.
Prakash found that InfluxDB had a high ingest and was extremely scalable. He recommends writing data in batches to minimize network overhead and using gzip compression to help speed up writing data over a home network.
