Fon Wireless Ltd. is a company incorporated and registered in the United Kingdom that provides wireless services. In 2006, it was created in Madrid, Spain, by Martín Varsavsky where it headquarters most of its operations. Fon started out by building its WiFi network through devices called “foneras.” Members, whom the company called “Foneros”, agreed to share a part of their bandwidth as a WiFi signal, so that they could connect to other members’ hotspots.
Fon pioneered residential WiFi sharing over a decade ago, and now manages a network of over 21 million hotspots worldwide. They are experts in keeping people seamlessly connected by aggregating residential and prime public WiFi footprints, as well as facilitating interconnection between WiFi networks. They are working on a complete home WiFi solution. The DevOps team chose InfluxDB because it is a high-performance time series database that has a simple-to-use query language.
