Abstract: In this Information Age article, Aaron Hurst covers experts’ predictions for the cloud in 2020. Among the predictions featured is that by InfluxData CTO Paul Dix, who believes that enterprise tech customers will lose faith in the multi-cloud. Says Paul: “I think that in 2020 enterprise tech customers will finally realise that pursuing a multi-cloud strategy is proving to be worthless. It takes enormous effort and adds a lot of complexity to build systems that can switch between different public clouds for the relatively meagre benefit of hedging against outages and vendor lock-in.” The article also features a prediction by InfluxData CEO Evan Kaplan, who believes open source firms will embrace the cloud: “The coming year will show that cloud-based applications are the winning monetisation strategy for open-source software companies.”
