This is a short update to the InfluxDB community to announce that the master branch of InfluxDB will be switched over to the alpha version of 2.0 on Friday, January 11th. While the final alpha release will have a migration path and compatibility mode for the 1.x API, this early version won’t have that. So you should consider master after January 11th to be a 2.0 alpha and a breaking change from 1.x.
Currently, the InfluxDB 2.0 work is occurring in the platform repo. This code will be migrated to the influxdata/influxdb repository’s master branch. The platform
repo will be archived. What is currently in master of InfluxDB (1.x line) will be put into a branch at https://github.com/influxdata/influxdb/tree/1.8. Updates to the 1.x line will continue to be merged into that branch until we cut that release. After January 11th, all commits to master will be for the 2.0 line.
The first alpha of InfluxDB 2.0 should land later this month with quick releases following. Alpha won’t be recommended for production usage. We’re taking the approach of quick iterations during the alpha phase to iterate on community feedback on features. We’ll have a versioned alpha release every week that should include new features and bug fixes. Once we’ve nailed down the final feature set, we will switch over into beta mode. At that point only bug fixes will occur until we get to the final 2.0 release.
Onward to InfluxDB 2.0!
