Abstract: In this Computing article, John Leonard discusses the usage of telemetry to gain visibility into fleet vehicle usage, citing the example of WayKonect a startup acquired by French oil company Total. WayKonect has been “working on ways to help organizations optimize their use of fleet cars while also bringing employees with them.” Since it can be hard to keep track of what company vehicles are doing over the lifespan of a typical contract, interest in telematics has increased. WayKonect processes telematics data from fleet vehicles and processes it in a cloud platform rooted in two datastores: time series database InfluxDB and graph database Neo4J.
